ARPHS Demographic Profile - Census 2006

Animations

Using data from the last four Censuses a series of animated cartograms have been constructed to depict the regional dynamics of change. The series includes national and ARPHS regional figures for a number of Census usually resident populations.

The animations show change by both area size and shading. The area size is standardised against the most recent population. This means that the increase (or decrease) in size is proportional to the amount of growth. The legend and colour classification remains constant for all frames in an animation.

Animations are shown for total population and selected level ethnic groups as well as the population resident in the fifth (most deprived) CAU quintiles of the applicable NZDep edition.

While the quantile scores of NZDep editions remain, by definition, constant, it is also true that the neighbourhood populations behind these scores change in line with the total New Zealand population changes. This NZDep quintile five population animation series shows the growth in absolute numbers and apparent concentration of those living in New Zealand’s most deprived neighbourhoods.
