Improving Public Health and Wellbeing Through Well Managed Urban Development and Growth

Around 120 people from a broad range of organisations attended a workshop entitled, Improving public health and wellbeing through well managed urban development and growth on 12 December 2006.

The workshop was co-hosted by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service and the Auckland Regional Council and focused on public health and urban planning, design and development. The workshop built on the ARPHS report, Improving health and wellbeing: a public health perspective for local authorities in the Auckland region launched on 16 June 2006, in which one of the key focus areas is urban development.

The report outlines the important links between local government activity and community health and wellbeing. Improvements to community wellbeing will be enhanced by closer working relationships between the health sector and local government. The regional workshop aimed to provide some context for building these relationships into the future.

A report on the workshop is available now.

Copies of the presentations can be downloaded from the Public Health and Urban Development Workshop page.
