Be active 30 minutes every day, your way with Feetbeat – an eight week physical activity challenge for workplaces in the Auckland region starting on 10 September 2007.
The Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) programme encourages workplaces to enter teams and participate in any type of physical activity from running to energetic housework.
Feetbeat co-ordinator at ARPHS, Sugar Te Paa says the programme has been hugely successful since it began three years ago.
“Last year’s Feetbeat programme had 290 teams taking part which was an outstanding result,” she says.
Teams of up to eight record their combined distances of activity to gain points, with bonus points available to teams encouraging whanau and friends to join them on their journey to health.
The winner of last year’s ‘best story’ award, Pat Tunstall from Auckland Transit Care says some of the girls in her team can equate their kilometres to decreased dress sizes and better self esteem.
Feetbeat is a great way for workmates to team up and work towards a common goal such as improved fitness, coping with stress or weight loss.
The programme will be launched as a lead-in to SPARC’s ‘Push Play Nation’ in October and ends on ‘National Pushplay Day’ on 2 November 2007.
