Vaka Ola

The Pacific Peoples' journey towards holistic health and wellbeing.

Vaka Ola, the Pacific Island health team within the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) was set up with the purpose of ensuring co-ordinated health care, health awareness and support for the Pacific Island staff and communities.

The team works across the service and contributes to health promotion programmes such as Kai Lelei and School Beverages and also in the areas of environmental health, food safety and disease investigation.

Vaka Ola was instrumental in producing resources in collaboration with other health organisations. These resources can be obtained through ARPHS Resource Centres:

  • Smokefree Pasifika’ poster series (to promote happy and healthy
    families and communities through being Smokefree.
    )
  • Pasifika families living free of violence poster series
  • Tongan Gambling Research Report
  • Umu Pasifika’ [a resource in collaboration with New Zealand Food Safety Authority.]
