Health authorities in China have notified the World Health Organisation (WHO) of human cases of avian influenza from the A(H7N9) influenza strain.

At this stage there is no evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission of influenza A(H7N9).

Advice to New Zealanders who live overseas or are travelling overseas is available on the New Zealand Government’s Safe Travel Website . The Ministry of Health website also has information on A(H7N9) as well as general information on preventing influenza. Further information is also available on the World Health Organisation website, and on the CDC (United States Centers for Disease Control) website.
